Spiritual Awakening begins with the falling away of your Identites one by one eventually leading to Loss of Self that you imagines yourself to be. And this could be a very painful process for the individual and ultimately requires ego's surrender and resisting will only lead to more pain and suffering. One loses his sense of self or identity and space for spirit opens up.
